How do I check if ChatGPT mentions my brand?
Run a fixed set of prompts that your buyers would use and record whether your brand is named, how it is described and which sources are cited. Repeat monthly in a clean session, because answers vary by wording, model version and whether the assistant used web search.
Updated Markdown version
- Write 15 to 30 prompts. Include category questions ("best tools for X"), comparison prompts ("A vs B") and direct brand prompts ("what is [Brand]").
- Run each in a logged-out or fresh session and, where possible, with web search on and off.
- Record whether you are named, the position in the list, the description and the cited URLs.
- Check accuracy. Wrong pricing or features suggest your sources disagree; fix the listings.
- Repeat monthly and compare. Run each prompt a few times; answers are not deterministic.
| Prompt type | Example |
|---|---|
| Category | What are the best tools for submitting a startup to directories? |
| Comparison | Compare [Brand] and [Competitor] |
| Brand | What does [Brand] do and what does it cost? |
Paid tools can automate sampling. A spreadsheet is enough to start.

Frequently asked questions
Why does ChatGPT not mention my new product?
It may not know it exists: the model's training data may predate you, and web search may find few independent sources.
Should I ask ChatGPT directly whether it knows my brand?
It can be a first check, but do not rely on it. Models can answer confidently and be wrong.
